“In search of a new challenge, after many years of singing other peoples songs, I decided it was time to let the world hear my own creations. With a stack of songs already written, I’m on a journey of self-fulfilment, I write from the heart and tell my stories the way I want them to be told”. Guy Surtees.

Biography

Guy Surtees is a British Country Music singer and songwriter from England.

With time on his hands and looking for a new challenge, longtime Country music fan and ex radio presenter Guy Surtees decided to use his thirty years of performing covers (whilst writing songs that never saw the light of day) to finally become an artist in his own right.

With a back catalogue of as-yet unrecorded songs inspired by his favourite Country artists, he has hit the ground running with his debut 4 track EP CD ‘English Country Boy’, showcasing the various facets of his songwriting style. It was recorded at Rhythm Studios in Bidford-on-Avon and co-produced by Paul Johnston.

His debut single ‘English Country Boy’ was released on the 7th March 2023 and went straight to No.1 in the iTunes Country chart ! The second release ‘Thanking God I’m Alive’ went to No.3.

Guy’s influences include Dwight Yoakam, Lady A, Little Big Town, Chris Stapleton, Brett Young and Sean McConnell.

He has been a singer and musician since 1980 and plays guitar, bass, keyboards and drums, and is learning to play banjo, fiddle and slide guitar.

Brought up in Coventry through the 2-Tone era, Guy found Country music in 1986 through Dwight Yoakam and fell completely in 2009 when he heard Lady Antebellum, now the English Country Boy is on track to join the British Country Music movement that has been growing massively over the last few years.

New to the British Country scene, but with his apprenticeship well and truly served, Guy has made new friends and fans in a short space of time. Not in it for fame and fortune, Guy wants the world to hear his soul bearing story songs, make his friends and family proud, and have a lot of fun along the way.

If you’re interested, the video for ‘English Country Boy’ was filmed in and around a pub called The Ruin in Floodgate Street, Digbeth, Birmingham, one quiet Sunday in Feb 23.
